Areas of Specialization
Welcome to Lukomsky Therapy, where healing begins with understanding and compassion. As a dedicated trauma therapist, I specialize in providing support for individuals navigating the complexities of Anxiety, Depression, Complex-PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, and in providing Gender-Affirming Care for the LGBTQ+ community. With a commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment, I am here to guide you on your journey towards resilience and empowerment. Let’s collaborate to build a path towards healing and embracing your authentic self.
Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety can feel like always being keyed up and never really feeling like you can relax. It can mean your mind is always racing with worry, always trying to get things "just right" but always feeling like you're not doing things well enough and that something terrible is about to happen unless you find a way to stop it. This way of being often leads to avoidance or overdoing or both, and can cause a great deal of stress and distress.

Depression can feel like trying to run underwater. It can feel impossible to get up and do things, even things like basic self-care. You may know all the things you "should" be doing, but you just can't seem to do them, and so you end up feeling like you're failing in some way. Your self-esteem and your mood may be very low, and it can be hard to feel any sense of hope at all. You may even be so low you've thought of suicide.

Reaching out for help is cruical if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. There is no need to suffer alone. In my practice, I cultivate a safe and secure space where clients can open up and explore the root of these distressing experiences so they can heal and break free from them once and for all.

*If you are currently struggling with thoughts of suicide, please call or text 988 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for immediate crisis support wherever you are in Canada.
Complex-PTSD
Complex-PTSD occurs because of prolonged exposure to traumatic experiences. In my practice, I treat all forms of complex-PTSD such as when it occurs as a result of intergenerational or sociopolitical trauma, as a result of oppression and marginalization, or from abuse within interpersonal relationships. But, I most commonly work with adult survivors of childhood abuse and neglect, or childhood-PTSD.
Folks living with complex-PTSD experience a myriad of symptoms such as difficulties with emotion regulation, dissociation, flashbacks, hypervigilance, a constant nagging low mood, a negative shame-based self-concept, difficulties with addictions, difficulties with relationships, codependency, procrastination, isolation, or excessive socialization and risk taking. The crux of the issue is that this type of trauma is very nuanced, individual and complex. As such, many folks suffering from complex-PTSD have struggled to find the right support for them. In fact, their trauma histories will often exclude them from services. But this is for a good reason. Working with trauma is a highly specialized skill that requires a delicate and thoughtful approach.
Through my many years of training in trauma-specific therapy approaches, I can help clients understand their trauma, unravel problematic family dynamics and work directly with the body to help heal the detrimental effects of trauma from the inside out. These approaches offer gentle and compassionate methods that help clients feel safe in their bodies and in the world once more.
Bipolar Disorder
Receiving a Bipolar Disorder diagnosis can be a heavy and life-changing event that can leave many people feeling hopeless about their future as they are often told by well-meaning health professionals that they will remain at the mercy of their mood fluctuations for the rest of their lives. I work with people to break this unhelpful messaging and empower them to reconnect with their sense of agency and mastery in the world.
When treating Bipolar Disorder, I combine interpersonal social rhythm therapy, emotion-focused therapy, shame-resilience, and somatic therapy to create a unique treatment approach that helps individuals get to the root of their mood fluctuations and create a life in which they can feel stable again. Drawing from my experience on an early psychosis intervention team, I understand the complexities of addressing mental health challenges from both the medical and trauma-informed perspectives, and most importantly, I understand how both approaches can work together to create lasting positive change. With the right support, it is possible to stop mood fluctuations and live a full and fulfilling life.
Gender Affirming Care
I have always been passionate about providing care to the LGBTQ+ community and in providing gender-affirming care and supporting gender-diverse individuals through their process of transitioning. My work in a primary healthcare clinic specializing in gender diversity allowed me the opportunity to support individuals in their pre and post-operative care for various gender-affirming surgeries.
This experience motivated me to seek training with Rainbow Health Ontario, enhancing my ability to be an ally and guide individuals through their unique transition journeys. It brings me great joy to see people fully realize and embrace their gender expression and move freely through the world as their authentic selves. I offer my services as a safe and supportive space for individuals at any stage of this incredible journey.
*Individuals 16 and over can access gender-affirming healthcare in York Region through the Gender Affirming Health Clinic at CMHA-York Region. And, in Toronto through the Sherbourne Health Clinic.
